Wolves vs Mountain Caribou

In order to attempt to protect dwindling Mountain Caribou numbers the government has decided that a wolf cull is required. Habitat changes have made the mountain caribou a prey item for wolves – previously unable to access alpine (and sub-alpine) areas in winter were the caribou congregate. The controversy arises from the idea that if habitat is not being restored at a high enough rate, then wolves will simply return to fill the vacuum. So what do you think? Is this a good short-term strategy if it coincides with a habitat restoration plan or will this cull need to be done annually? If so, is there support for this type of management?
